Whats going on everyone? I recently purchased a 2011 zx-6r brand new. Currently has 140 miles on her, I've been reading around and there have been so many different articles and videos of how to break in a new engine. Some videos said to change the oil to a standard oil after the first 20 miles and then switch to synthetic after 1000 miles. Others state different, wait until 600 then change to whatever youd like. I'm trying to figure out how to break it in, some say the first 20 miles are the most important. I'm 120 miles past that. I haven't beat on her yet but I also haven't been babying her. Any ideas or advice to how you might of broke in your new bike? Note this isn't my first street bike, just my first new one. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I was in the same boat a few years back when I bought a new R6. I asked the mechanics at the dealership and they told me not to baby a sportbike. They said that by the time I get home, I'll need an oil change (about 20 mile) I put yamalube in because that's what they suggested. Check with Kawi for yours. Then they told me to go drive the *** out of it. I followed those directions and enjoyed the bile worry free after. I say ask the mechanics at the dealer

There are many opinions on how to do this and since its hard to prove anyone of them right or wrong I would follow the owners manual on your bike in terms of rpms for a specified mileage etc.
I always throw in an extra oil and filter change or two over the first 500-1000 miles then I use a full synthetic. Some bikes and cars (such as BMW and Corvette) come with synthetic oils when new so dont worry about the syn oil causing problems.
IF you want to rip open the oil filter after you change the first one you will see why its a good idea as they are usually full of small metal shavings.
Otherwise use a good quality oil such as Motul, Belray, Repsol etc specific to bikes and you will be fine.
