Engine question

Hey guys,

Well as my name states, i'm a car guy. I'm new to the wonderful world of bikes and i have a question about engine builds. Now i'm a hands on guy. Done engine swaps on my camaro and did an engine rebuild on my grand prix GTP which was a fairly easy task as i grew up building cars. How much different is it rebuilding a bike engine? is it normally done? I would love to start building something for my 99 GIXXER but is it worth the time and effort. Any input is greatly appreciated.
