Im wanting to buy a motorcycle. i have never rode a motorcycle and i know nothing about them. so im looking for a good one to learn on. i know i dont want a crotch rocket. i was first looking at honda shadows but i think they may have to much power and be a little to heavy to learn on. then i started looking at honda rebels but realized through videos and reviews that they have to little power ( not good for interstates) . so im trying to find something that isnt heavy and has a decent amount of power to learn on . doesn't have to be honda, just need to find something preferably under $3k.i got kids and juice is expensive.lol. Thanks in advance!

Most cruisers are going to be a heavier bike to learn on unless you go with something like a rebel. The Honda Nighthawk wouldn't be too bad but they do have enough power to surprise you if you're not careful, especially if you have never ridden a motorcycle. Rebels are also small, not sure of your size. I would be thinking like a Suzuki GS 500 or even an enduro to get started. With the enduro you can also learn to ride it off of the streets. It's best to get yourself familiar with the operation of a motorcycle before jumping into buying one. And please, if you haven't already, take a motorcycle safety course. These offer different styles of bikes to try. I've been riding bikes for almost 25 years and I still went and took the course. These courses teach much more than just how to make the motorcycle stop and go. Well worth the money.

i definatly am going to take a safety course. im really not the kind of guy to want to go fast as hell but i do want some power on reserve ya know? took a look at the suzuki gs 500. nice bike but those bikes typically dont have saddle bags right? im in the military and i have certain gear i need to take everyday and thats another reason i was looking for a cruiser.just took a look at the nighthawk. looks a bit heavy, but ill take your word for it if you say is an ok bike to learn on. appreciate the help!
