I bought this 2001 Hayabusa in January and have been busy tearin it down and building it back up. The bike was rough around the edges. Normal wear and tear for most of it and a ripped up drivers seat. It still needs some work and I'm looking for some ideas. I need to close in the tail section and around the tank. This project should keep me busy through the winter!
Heres where I started to where I am now.

the 'busa is tough to 'fighter b/c the frame is so ugly. maybe paint it all black or something? then add some black food coloring to the coolant!

lol yeah the coolant don't look too good like that. Not sure if I wanna paint the reservoir or try and cover it, but the plans are black for the bike. I gotta do up the body work and tear it down again. Powdercoat is the plan for the winter! I just wanna get some ridin in while I still can. It gets cold up here in the winter!

yeah id def, powder coat the frame, front and rear sets, and swing arm, black, and paint the resivor but before you do i would put a strip of tape up the center of it, like some pin stripeing tape, so after you paint it you will still be able to check the level.

Most of the coolant was drained when I cleared the fluids from the bike. There was a bit left over and the new stuff was a different color so thats why it looks like I cool my bike with moose piss!
As for the reservoir paint, the taping was already in my head, but thanks for making sure. I'm definitely capable of forgetting something like that.

yeah, i have been in the painting biz for a while now and made stupid mistakes and seen others make stupid mistakes so now i step back and think of everything i could possibly do to keep from messing up, i do every step i think of then i step back and look everything over again to check myself. sometimes its the small mistakes that become the biggest mistakes.

Ran into a few of those "small mistakes" on this already. Rerouting the wiring gave me a lot of headaches.

If you leave the coolant bottle exposed to sunlight you will be replacing it soon. We are starting to get a lot of 6+ year old bikes in the shop for coolant res tanks falling apart.
I just made a catch tank for mine out of stainless.

Or you could find a aluminum bottle you like.

I like the idea of a unique reservoir. Thanks for the pics. Now that the snow is coming I'm gonna tear the bike down again and have some more fun. This is definitely something I'm gonna work on. Also the fightered busa featured in this months mag looks a lot like where I was heading with this bike. I feel as though I have to make more changes and put my own spin on it more now than I did before.
