just read the security blog and wanted to let you know about the latest bike security from the UK, we have around 36,000 thefts a year and more bikes are stolen than are sold new , I came accross some stats for the USA from 2008 which were 57,000 thefts a year with CA being the worst, I think the thefts figures maybe more as this is based on insurance claims.
The usual chains you have in the US/CAN are 10-13mm in diameter, these we have found can be cut with large boltcutters, which is the most popular method of attack in the UK.
With this in mind chains have become larger over the last few years 16mm , 19mm and even a 19.5mm short link, information here: http://www.elitesecuritysupplies.com/locks_and_chains.htm All of these chains are gaurenteed unboltcroppable.
Alarms should only be used with a strong security chain and offer more security when your out and about. Acumen alarms were voted No1 by MCN (motorcycle news, largest weekly bike newspaper in the UK)This was due to their reliability and the fact that theirs are th eonly waterproof alarms, details here: http://www.elitesecuritysupplies.com/motorcycle_alarms.htm
Trackers are only as good as their accuracy and battery life once the bikes power has been disconnected. The Acutrac uses all three technologies GPS,GSM and RF. It can track your bike anywhere on the planet and is the most accurate commercially available tracker, with the bike power disconnected it can run on its own internal battery for 4 months and will even text/email you when you battery is low as well as a host of other features, information here: http://www.elitesecuritysupplies.com/motorcycle_asset_tracking_system.html New packages will be added soon so you will have the unit and 3 years subscription for only £450 and .10p per text.
I hope this helps you with your bike security, if you need any help or advise drop us a line.
