My bike is near completion now that I've found the paint job and new fairings I wanted but there was one little piece of my bike missing that in my opinion makes and eyesore on how the bike looks and fows together. On the bottom edge of the 05 and older GSX-R's there is a space between the tank and the frame where the tank is crimped or folded over or whatever and there is supposed to be a rubber molding that covers that. So what you're left with is a space where there is nothing but the base color of your tank next to the edge of your sticker or paint which in my opinion looks a bit off if the molding is missing.

I looked on ebay, craigslist, the OEM schematics from Suzuki, and couldn't find the molding on anybody elses bikes or parts for sale. So I called Suzuki to ask them for halp and it took about 20 minutes but we finally found what I was looking for on the 92 GSXR schematics and the piece was long enough to leave me with extra to work with and it only cost $18.

I figured I'd share that in case there were other people looking for a small or typically overlooked part. Sometimes the older bikes can be used to upgrade the new ones even if it is just a small piece like the molding.

check out the third picture in my profile of my motorcyle where the bike is facing to the right.

http://rides.superstreetbike.com/ride/1189740/stunnin750/2004/suzuki/gsxr/photos/3.html

you'll see the molding hanging off of the tank of the bike and how you can see where the tank sticker ends and it's just yellow on the bottom edge. if you check out the first link here

http://www.bikebandit.com/2004-suzuki-motorcycle-gsx-r750-fuel-tank/o/m6222sch507867

you'll see that te OEM schematics don't show that the bike comes with the molding, therefore it can't be bought.

BUT!!!! check out this link

http://www.bikebandit.com/1992-suzuki-motorcycle-gsxr600wn-fuel-tank-model-n/o/m6216sch247775

and you'll see that the molding is on the bottom of the tank as indicated by #9 and that it's about $18. When the molding is on the tank it gives it a cleaner flowing look and doesn't leave gaps between stickers and paint. It might seem like small potatoes to some people but I like to pay attention to every detail when it comes to my bike, especially when it's only 18 bucks. Now, I think I'll just put some hot glue or something on the molding before applying it so it won't come off again. I will also probably need to use a heat gun to make it more pliable in order to get it to mold to my tank properly.

note though that the part numbers on bike bandit's website are not the Suzuki OEM part numbers

Do not put hot glue on your bike, that stuff will melt off.

use 3M double sided trim adhesive tape if anything.  Ive seen to many people hot glue their neon lights  to their fairings and it turns into a disaster.  Ive been using this stuff to adhere replacement name plates i machined out for the old M.I.G. exhausts and it sticks and never comes off on that.  So it has to work for you

i was just using an example. but i agree with you on the 3M stuff. that's what spider-man uses to climb walls so it must work.

Ahh now I see what you're talking about, some windscreens come with something similar. That looks way more finished then the pinched metal. I wonder If I can get something similar in black for my 929.

Yep, even windscreens look better with it. I had to get a replacement strip for my windscreen too. I don't see why the molding for the gsxr wouldn't work for your 929. I should be getting it in the mail soon, I'll let you know if it's worth the 18 bucks.
