You need to weigh your options for what you plan on doing with the bike you purchase. Before buying any bike it's not a bad idea to research the availability of parts for the bike. As bikes get older manufacturers stop making parts for them so all that's left is what's still on their shelves and once that supply is gone all you have left is used bits from ebay or craigslist. You need to think about your plans for the bike you buy too, not just which is cheaper right now.

Weigh your options carefully. That's a huge amount of technology gap between 2002 and 2007.

What's your riding experience? If you haven't ridden a literbike yet I might start with the R1, those are great bikes with tons of midrange. That was still the long-stroke motor so you don't have to spin it to win it. The ZX-10R is F'n fast, but also a lot more $. For the difference you can mod the R1 and get some nice gear.
Just my two cents.

JUSTIN ASKS A GOOD QUISTION REGARDING EXPERIENCE THE 10 WILL BE A BIT OVERWHELMING FOR LACK OF A BETTER WORD. IF YOUVE SPENT MOST OF YOUR TIME RIDING A 600 AND ARE A LIGHT RIDER. IM A 2007 ZX10R AND OUT OF THE BOX IT WOULD RIDE TOURQE WHEELIES JUST BY MOVEING MY ASS BACK TO THE STOP & IM 289 LBS AND 6'3'' TALL. THE R1 HANDLES A LOT MORE GLASSEY. BUT IN THE END ITS ALL UP TO WHAT YOU WANT TO DO? REALY. YAMMAHA HAS THE TECH, HONDA HAS THE FINESH,SUSUKI HAS PASSING LIGHT AND KAWASAKI COMES WITH A LAP TIMMER AND A HOLELOT OF MOTOR. P.S TELL SONSKI THAT I TO HAVE HAD THE OL WAKASAKI PITCH ME OVER JUST LIKE THAT.

i think a 140-ish HP R1 or a 150-ish HP Zx-10 would be equivalent "loaded guns" in the hands of a newb. buy the cheaper bike, that way after you crash it you'll have some cash left over to fix it...provided you're still alive.
