Im in Iraq at the moment and when i get home im going to buy me a bike. Not a new one but around 2006 or so. I have had many dirt bikes and i have rode my friends sport bikes. I have rode around on them but never owned one. Im looking into the 2006 R6 and the 2006 GSX R750. This will be my first bike and im looking for some advice on what you think and just info on the bikes. Im 21 6'0 and 180lbs.
Which one is a better starter bike? Im not really into curves and such more a highway guy, just crusing. Which bike is better on the curves? What bike would you get and why?

Thanks alot guys

You sound like you're in the position i was in while deployed other than it being your first bike. In my opinion what your first bike is depends on your personal level of experience. my first 2 bikes were 600's and now i have a 750 and i wish i would have started with the 750 instead of wasting my time. But i taught myself to ride and spent many hours and days and months reading an studying bikes before buying one.

I say go with the 750 but take it really slow when learning and starting and go to a parking lot to do it. A large one with no cars, like a arena parking lot that is closed.

I say go with the 750 only because it is the same weight as the 600 but has the potential to get the power of a stock 1000 with a few mods. Like I said, take it easy and slow and do lots of homework on the bike you are buying and definitely bring an honest to God EXPERIENCED rider to help you check out the potential bikes. I'll send you a PM on your profile so you can hit me back if you want.

thanks alot i just dont know which one im going to get. I know the R6 handles great and is fast just like the gsxr 750. There both great bikes but its going to be my first so im just trying to find out as much as i can about the both of them. Most friends and people i have talked to told me the gsxr's are more of a stunting bike and the R6 is more for curves and speed.

that's just an opinion on what they have heard or read mostly. as of right now, the most popular stunt bikes i have seen are hondas and r6's. The two most used makes of bikes in motogp right now are yamaha and suzuki. No offense to them but your friends and people around you are just giving opinions and not actual facts. I can't remember the last time i heard of a professional using a gixxer in a competition but then again I'm not anybody special either. I prefer suzuki and yamaha personally and if i had to get a bike for stunting i would get a cbr. i just wouldn't feel as bad about wrecking one.

118 people have veiwed this post. Whats up lol no one have any advise at all? give me some specs on the gsxr 750 and the R6. Which one is faster? which one is better in the curves?

Im leaning toward the R6 because of the looks and the style of the bike. Its not as comfortable as the GSXR 750 but idk yet. I like both bikes if i could i would get both but all i need is one. The R6 or GSXR 750 is going to be my first bike i just need some advise on the bikes. What people think.....

don't take this the wrong way...

if you're a new rider on an R6 or GSX-R750 (or 1000) my girl could smoke you on her Ninja 250 in the curves. The bike doesn't make you fast, your experience does.

the difference in power between those two bikes isn't that much (R6: 105 HP, GSXR750: 120).
learn to ride a 600 properly and nobody will pull away from you. if you don't believe me look at pro racing lap times: the 600s are only  2-3 seconds per lap slower than the 1000s. now that's in the hands of pros and riding on the edge at all times.

if you think the R6 looks better, get it! handling and "faster" are totally irrelevant because it all depends who is at the controls.

ride it for a few years, then maybe upgrade to a "faster" bike if you think you need to, but the difference between a 600 and a 750 isn't enough based on power alone.

i told you man, you can get a 750 that is the same size and weight as a 600 but with more power or you can get a 600 and beef it up to be just as powerful as a 750. it all depends on how much time and effort you want to put into the mechanics of the bike and the time you spend learning how to properly ride one. but if you want help when you do go looking for the bike you have my email.
