It's about time sheesh. I passed the MSF course so I wouldn't have to take the riding portion of the test at the DMV, so now I just have to take the written test. I made an appointment for next Monday, i'm pretty stoked that I will finally have my M1 license. Is the written test pretty easy guys? I have been studying the book that they gave me when I took the MSF class, also, I printed out the booklet from the DMV website. I also take the sample tests online.

Anyway, I hear they also test you on the car driver test, the questions are mixed in with the motorcycle questions. Why?

the motorcycle written test is really easy, its pretty much common sense, as long as u read the book and get some of the facts you will be fine, good luck!

I took the California Basic riders course just so i wouldnt have to take the pratical dmv driveing test. lol..

When i took the test i was converting my Texas drivers lisence to a California one, so i had to take the written test for Car and Motorcycle.  I studied both books about 2 hours apiece and took the online practice test about 4 times each.  I spread all that out over the course of 4 days, then took both of my tests back to back and only missed 2 questions.

2 hours on 1 book for me was reading through it once really good and then reviewing the sections that I highlighted in the book that I thought were important.  The highlighted parts also coresponded with the practice test questions aswell.  So i think all together i put in 6-7 hourse of studding over the course of 4 days.  wich ends up to be alittle over 1 hour a day.

Hoped this helped you out.

i failed it twice in a row haha. i ended up arguing with the person there because the questions i kept getting wrong didn't make sense. they give you a hypothetical scenario with a diagram and ask where the best place to be is (3 bikes and a car on the road, for instance). I was arguing that it depends on what bike you're on, road conditions, time of day, etc.
I guess I was looking into it too deep.
it's mostly common sense though, aside from those stupid scenarios.

You had a good argument Dave, i'll look out for the stupid scenarios that they give.

Annette,Congrats on passing the MSF course, the wriiten test like the others hace said is easy & has some faults like Dave has pointed out,use your logic, picture the scenario in your mind ,if it makes sense to you its right, pass over a question if your not sure & go back to it,They sometimes involve 4 wheel vehicles in the question as a matter of defensive driving ,silly isnt it.As you know you can take the test 3 times all in the same day,but youll pass the first one & your on the road.Your in good hands with the crew @ SSB. later...Dom

Dave made a good point. It's the same in Alaska with the rediculous scenarios. I failed my first time but I got most of the same questions the second time and they were all mixed with car questions. The driving portion was rediculous too. I'm pretty sure the person supervising me has never been on a motorcycle in her life. She made me walk the bike around a cone and tried to tell me I couldn't back it up. I still passed but it was retarded. But congratulations and good luck. It'll be nice to have a female rider out there that rides for the love and interest of it instead of just to get attention.

Update: I passed the DMV test. I failed twice like Sonsky, but I passed on the third try, and I now have my M1 license. I'm looking for a bike now. I'll probably end up with the Ninja 250, but the Yamaha FZ6R looks pretty cool too.

Failing your MC driving test is part of being a motorcycle rider, haha
