im sorry for being so unclear.  what i mean is i see bikes for sale and the add says the bike has a clean title or a salvage title and i think i have read others too, what do those different classifications mean?

clean title just means the owner has the title in hand and it's good to go—ready to be signed over to you.

salvage title means the bike has had an insurance claim against it—likely it was in a major accident and has been rebuilt. sometimes a salvage title bike can be a great steal b/c insurance companies will write off bikes for the slightest ding in the frame. as a new rider i'd steer clear of the salvage title stuff for now though...

or, a clean title can mean the owner left it in his pocket and it went through the wash machine.
