Wrong. You started on the right bike, unlike the squids that start on 600s and up and still can't take a corner faster than 45 mph with 2 inch wide chicken strips. You can now turn the 250 into a great track bike, and be even faster.

JStyleX you did the right thing. Starting off with a 250 was a smart choice. You learned the basics and now you want to move up, there is nothing wrong with that. You can be the only judge of your riding comfort. If you truely are ready for a 600, I can not say, I have never seen you ride. It takes some people a lot longer than others to learn. As far as what 600 to buy, there are a lot of different things that go into buying a bike. But once you cut the red tape and sit back, buy what will make you happy. If you like the way that one looks and rides better than the other one get it. What I prefer is different totally different than what someone else will prefer. Get what puts the biggest smile on your face, just don't give it all throttle right off the bat. There is a pretty big difference between a 250 and a 600. Do not think that the power is the same. Be carefull and ride safe.

^^^^ agreed! the newer 600s have a lot of power especially if you know how to use it! the 250 was a good choice for a first bike and I'm sure it helped out when it came to ins. I have had over 10 bikes in the last 11 years. I just picked up an 04 636.. LOVE IT! I havent been this happy with a bike since I picked up my 900rr with 500 miles on the clock 9 years ago.
something else to think about - are you going to service the bike yourself... I have had a lot of Hondas and they are known for there reliability, just sold a 600rr and it was no exception, I am a stunter and beat the living *** out of my bikes and the Hondas always come back for more. Yamaha's have always been a pain to work on.
check out the Honda 600rr 03 to current, there all great! also check out the 636 its a very comfortable bike and very easy and fun to ride. ( I personaly prefer the 03-04 ) at the end of the day it comes down to your preference.

ok i just wrote a post about this lol i should have read this one before tho lol So the best bet is to go with the 250 right???? i was looking at this particular case, where he was ready to upgrade in about 6 months, i do understand that its a decent amount of time to get to know the bike and what its capable of doing. But like one of the responses i got said... what about the long time use of the bike, would it cost you more to go with the 250 and then upgrade to a bigger bike, which might be a little more expensive?? i do understand that its my our lives were talking about here and there is no price for our lives, but money plays a part in making decisions like this. And i want to make sure im making the right decision for myself and my budget

We haven't seen you ride so we have to take your word on it. If you think you're ready and are confident enough in yourself to upgrade, then by all means go for it.

if you think you're ready to upgrade please do a trackday first.
get a lap time once you're comfortable.
then, let somebody from the fast group do a couple laps on your 250 and get a lap time.
evaluate the results.
not being a dick, just don't think 6 months is long enough in the saddle just yet to be looking for more power.
