I've been cruising around my v-star 1300 for a year now, and customizing it with pipes, air ride, electrical, etc. However, lately I've been considering a sport bike for the increase in performance, and maneuverability. So the question is, am I willing to trade the looks for balls! I've been looking at the R6, and R1 (just cuz I like yamahas). I've been weighing the pro's and con's. I like doing longer rides (200+ miles), but was a little concerned about the comfort factor. I don't know if this matters, but I'm 6', 155lbs. I rode a z1100 (sport/touring) recently, and obviously I loved the performance. However, as vain as it may sound, I like the aggressive looks of  sport bikes. I'm lucky enough to have a local friend that has agreed to let me cruise his R6, so that should tell me a little more. I'm looking for some feed back from riders who have any insight on sport bikes.

Thanks!

like I said on the other thread...
Cruiser heavy, sportbike light...so the power does more faster on a sportbike.
Cruiser reclined, sportbike more INTO your riding world by crunching into it - start working out your back and thighs.
rake and trail is completely different on a sportbike which means more responsive turning.

I mean you already know how to ride, that isnt the problem, all you need to learn how to do is be humble about riding and understand its a new level and be open to learning from yourself while you ride I guess.

When I started playing on dirt bikes I just dumbed down everything I knew about riding street and let myself learn from my mistakes, near misses and what felt better as I rode. I let myself have a beginners mind because Dirt & street are completely different worlds but similar at the same time.

JUST A FAST BREAK MAN... I WAS A CRUISER .... AND HAD A HONDA SHADOW ALSO... NOW I RIDE A 900RR, IT'S OLDSCHOOL AND HEAVY, BUT I FELL IN LOVE FROM RIDING MY GIRLS R-1.... IT IS A BIG DIFERENCE IN STANCE AND THE WAY THEY RIDE FROM A STRAIGHT UP OR LAY BACK FLOW FORM FROM WHAT YOUR USE TO, BUT IT'S A QUICK AND EASY PROCESS, JUST REMEMBER THE TOUQUE COMPAIRED TO A BIG UPRIGHT RIDE... YOU'LL BE FINE... AND WELCOME!! IT'S A BLAST...

Well, from the sound of it you're looking to get into the sportbike world for the performance and looks.  I'm sure everyone else can and will mention a lot of the usual suspects in the sportsbike world, but I'll add some others here.  You mention you like to travel on 200m+ road trips.  That might make something like a gixxer or R1, R6 a pain in the ass...literally.  Have you thought about looking at something like a Suzuki V-Strom?  Just an idea.  Might give you what you're looking for while still providing a bit more comfort than an R6 or R1.  There's always the bandit, SV, ect.  I don't know why all those examples were Suzuki, but you get the idea of what I'm saying.
