I have been riding dirt bikes for 7 plus years and I own and currently ride a Harley Wide Glide and serious about selling and getting into the super sport bike world. I have heard if you buy a 600, it will get old quick. I don't want to waste time or money. Opinion? Is it safe to get a 1000 for your first sport bike? Been considering a gixr 1000. Love the feel and looks. Never rode one though. I have rode a R1 one time and can't remember what I thought. Thanks for any suggestions or input.

I just bought my first bike...a brand new 2007 GSX-R 750. Basically the same as a 600 but on steriods and let me tell you...i love it. People get confused about street bike riding and think it's all about speed when that's only half of it. The other half is technique. Once you get your technique down, a good rider on a 750 will b able to beat a new rider on a 1000 any day. It's all up to you. If you think you can ride smart and not too fast at first, i'd suggest anything not to exceed the 1000cc mark
