I'm a new to the world of streetbike riding. I've recently completed a MSF course(with flying colors i might add ) and i also have my license. I'm about 5'8" & 175lbs. I have my heart&soul set on a 2007 GSX-R 750 but most people are telling me to stay away from it cause it's such a powerful bike. I have 2 cousins, both of which had no riding experience b4 they bought their bikes(05 R6&07 GSX-R 600)& they seem to be doing just fine. Any suggestions&comments for me?

im a new rider too. im about to do the msf course. every one i have talked to have said the same thing. most every one has said for me to go with the suzuki katana or sv650. i have looked at those and they seem to be pretty good. but i have never road b4 so my opinion doesnt mean too much.

I would say it depends on ur personality. Do you think you would ride fast and crazy? (I do, that's why I stay with a 600) A 750 is the perfect balance between a 600 and the liter bikes.(1000cc and up) And the newer 600's make tons of power! I would start out with the 6.

Safety is my 1st and foremost concern. I don't think that i'll be riding fast and crazy. I have friends that ride w/o gear and even one that has rode after a few  drinks...something i do not condone! I compared the specs on both a 6 and 750 and it's the EXACT same bike except with a different motor so it may be safe to say i could go with either...as long as i don't get carried away with the right hand

i guess the size and power does make a difference when ur a new rider but i think when it comes down to a 600 and a 750 with the 750 having a little more punch i would assume, ride within ur skill level.stay disciplined until u get better at riding...me personally..im gettin a 6 but if ur gonna buy the 750 anyway..just ride within ur means and respect it the same way u would respect 600..just a suggestion

Stay away from the SV's and katanas, etc .If you do not you will wish you did in a couple of months. Go for the 6 or 750 and be mellow with it until you learn how to handle it. Learned this from experience.

I've compared all the specs on both bikes and they are EXACTLY the same bike, except for they have different motors. Thanks guys for all your comments and suggestions and i'll keep you all posted on how everything goes when i make my purchase in 1-2 more months.

It all depends how u ride the bike.If u ride like a nut u know the outcome.Buy the bike u want, and feel more comftable with. The smaller the bike the faster u want to upgrade so 750 just fine.Ride for year or two and then u will want to upgrade.good luck ride safe keep eyes on vehicles.

well in my opinion, if your man enough to get a bike(and ur not gonna stunt it) u might as well get at least a 1000. so down the road you dont say "damn i spend like $8,500 to $10,000 on a 600cc or smaller bike, and now i gotta go by a bigger bike cause ive out grown this one" just my opinion. all these people will tell you that you shouldnt get a big bike and they are for experienced riders...blah blah blah. my first street bike is the one i have now which is a 06 zx10. if ypu have the 2 R's(respect and responsibilty) you'll be ok! ride within ur limits and understand whats in between your legs. good luck on your decision and remember always be careful!

Like the previous the 2 r's is right.. I got a 750 for my first bike and it was great... it demanded respect..and begged to be ridden...what my friends taught me...the bike will only do what want it to do...cross one of those R's and you will feel sorry later...DONT GET A KATUNA...are you kidding me we laugh at those guys...waste money on that..

My bro bought a new 2001 ninja 750 for his first bike and he is still alive. I bought a new 2001 Gixxer (Gsx-r) 1000 for mine... and well i'm still kickin'. It all depends on how stupid you are. I say get the 750 to start out... hell you might just like it and keep for 6 to 7 years before you get a new one (like my bro). I was lucky on not diein' with my gixx so I wouldn't go any higher than the 750. But don't go lower than a 600 either... you'll be sorry. DONT GET A KATUNA for the love of all things holy PLEASE dont... they just suck.
